A Comprehensive Guide to Exploring and Connecting with the Qur’an

Course Description

This course introduces students to the topics of Ulum al-Qur’an (sciences of the Qur’an) such as the history and process of revelation, the compilation of the Qur’an, Makki and Madani revelations, and the various styles of the ayat (Qur’anic verses), and the etiquettes associated with the Qur'an such as honoring the people of the Quran, etiquette of recitation and respecting the Mushaf itself, guidelines for teachers and students. 

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate foundational knowledge of the topics of revelation, occasions of revelation, Meccan and Medinan surahs, oaths, surah structure and unity, the process of revelation, compilation of the Quran, and the miraculous nature (I’jaz) of the Quran.

  • Recognize and appreciate the literary and scientific miracles of the Qur’an. 

  • Identify the core themes and messages of the Qur’an and the various styles of the ayat (Quranic verses)  

  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate information and to form an argument about the Qur’an in a structured and coherent manner both orally and in writing to prove the historical accuracy of dating the Qur’an to the Prophet’s era. 

  • Learn and implement the proper etiquettes of interacting with the Quran, strengthen the connection to the Quran, increase the impact of its recitation on the hearts, and attain high ranks in the afterlife.
